New Year...

If this is to be a Happy New Year, a year of usefulness, a year in which we shall live to make this earth better, it is because God will direct our pathway. How important then, to feel our dependence upon Him! ~ Matthew Simpson

Remember Your Past Sins...

"It is a good thing for a man to remember his past sins when that memory brings a loathing for evil. It is still better when the memory brings gratitude for the cleansing, and a deeper dependence upon God for power to live a holy life. This ministry of memory is one of the blessed ways that the Holy Spirit works in us." ~ A.F. Harper

Dependence

"A Christian . . . has a continual sense of his dependence on the Parent of good for his being, and all the blessings that attend it. To Him he refers every natural and every moral endowment; with all that is commonly ascribed either to fortune, or to the wisdom, courage, or merit of the possessor." ~ John Wesley

Ministry of Memory

It is still better when the memory brings gratitude for the cleansing, and a deeper dependence upon God for power to live a holy life. This ministry of memory is one of the blessed ways that the Holy Spirit works in us." ~ A.F. Harper (Holiness and High Country)

A Prayer...

“Dear Father; please stir our hearts to reach out for all that you have promised us.  Forgive our carnality, our indifference to the spiritual realities around us, and our dependence on human resources rather than your power.  Teach us to pray and wait upon you in humility and faith; send the wind and fire of your Spirit upon us.  Transform us into men and women who bear powerful witness in word and deed to the reality of Jesus Christ our Savior.  We ask all of this in his precious name.  Amen.” ~ Jim Cymbala  (Fresh Power)

Heart Holiness

To know the precious grace of heart holiness is to feel our utter dependence on Christ, in a moment-by-moment relation of faith and heart obedience." ~ William  Greathouse

God Uses Pain & Weakness

"God uses chronic pain and weakness, along with other afflictions, as his chisel for sculpting our lives. Felt weakness deepens dependence on Christ for strength for each day. The weaker we feel, the harder we lean." ~ J.L. Packer

Letting Go of Children

When my time came to let go of our children, I was able to do so largely because my mother had taught me that you don't let go of a relationship - only your dependence on it. She had done it well trusting God to protect her kids, and for this and all the other things she and Dad did, I give thanks to God. For I had a model of what to do in my own parenting.

Be Faithful...

Be faithful to what God has shown you - and don't worry about what He hasn't. God will reveal to you, in His time, everything you need to know. God wants to foster your dependence on Him. As you learn to love and trust God's faithfulness more, He'll put His peace in your heart.

You Can Do Nothing!

"Every now and again, Our Lord lets us see what we would be like if it were not for Himself; it is a justification of what He said - "Without Me you can do nothing." That is why the bedrock of Christianity is personal, passionate devotion to the Lord Jesus."

Hospitality of God

If I have enjoyed the hospitality of the Host of this universe, Who daily spreads a table in my sight, surely I cannot do less than acknowledge my dependence.

Future Events

God has wisely kept us in the dark concerning future events and reserved for himself the knowledge of them, that he may train us up in a dependence upon himself and a continued readiness for every event.
